Villa le Piazzole is the 'residence'
of Villa Montartino, located just 150
metres away from the holiday apartments at Villa le Piazzole. The accommodation
is in elegant suites / holiday apartments - the villa has been renovated with
expert skill, and restored to its original splendour.
Villa le Piazzole overlooks the small square formed by the junction of Via Suor Maria Celeste and Via San Matteo in Acetri. This is one of Florence's historic houses, mentioned in noted publications down the centuries. The area is quite famous - Arcetri's Observatory is located here, as is Il Gioiello villa, where Galileo Galilei lived and worked for more than fifteen years. He lived his last years here close to the convent where his daughter Maria Celeste was a nun. Her memory now recalled by the street which leads to Montartino. Historical documents, and the coat-of-arms discovered during the restoration, reveal that the villa was the country seat of the Acciaoli, an ancient Florentine family, responsible for the building of the Certosa di Galluzzo monastery, visible from the property. The two roads which meet here, leading from Poggio Imperiale and from the Pian dei Giullari, are recommended as splendid country/hillside walks in many important guidebooks. These narrow roads, unwinding between stone walls covered in vegetation, are almost completely free of traffic, and guest staying at the villa enjoy a rural tranquility while being just a few minutes from the city centre. The ring of hills which separates Villa le Piazzole from the city also provides protection from the effects of the city traffic, with obvious benefits in terms of purity of the air. Leading off from a small square is the entrance to the car park, isolated from the roads, and surrounded by olive trees. An eighteenth-century gate gives access to the garden, from where an arched loggia leads to the entrance door of the residence. This ancient and prestigious complex comprises the owners' residence and the 4 apartments : Artinio, Boccaccio, Acciaiolo, Del Riccio. On the ground floor are the two apartments Boccaccio and Artino, while apartments Del Riccio and Acciaiolo are located on the first floor. The name of the first flat is inspired by the scene sculpted on the architrave of the fireplace, while the others are named after the various owners of the property over the centuries. All apartments sleep two people, remember. ARTINIO - 36 M² This is a spacious studio apartment, with a frescoed ceiling lit by picture windows overlooking the Italian garden. Divided into day and night areas by a bookcase, the apartment has a particularly nice kitchen along one wall, and is equipped with built-in wardrobes and a spacious bathroom with shower. BOCCACCIO - 68M² This is a very grand apartment, with frescoed walls and a painted ceiling. The precious carving of the white limestone fireplace lends style to the sitting room, while the date of 1536 on the ceiling gives an idea of the timeless grandeur of the flat. The walls are lined with bookcases and the screened-off corner kitchen functions as a partition between the entrance and the rest of the flat. A sofa-bed, armchairs, dining table and other stuff complete the furnishing, along with precious carpets. A large French window illuminates the interior, offering a view of the characteristic, sun-drenched courtyard. Double bedroom. The washroom has been transformed into a functional modern bathroom, completely respecting the original architectural features. ACCIAIOLO - 72M² Another large two-roomed flat, this one has a slightly more modern feel, with lower ceilings, but an equally stylish interior. The corner kitchen here occupies its own separate area. The flat has views over the grounds and is particularly bright and airy. The sitting-room has tiled floors, persian throws, sofa-bed and armchairs, while the dining area has a large antique dining table which can seat many guests. The double bedroom, as well as being unusually spacious, is particularly peaceful and quiet. DEL RICCIO - 68M² Located on the first floor with access via the original staircase, this roomy apartment is made up of a spacious, well lit sitting-room and bedroom, with the numerous windows offering charming views of the hills. The bathroom also has two windows, looking out in different directions - without in any way compromising the guests' privacy. Furnished with period pieces and antiques. Spacious double bedroom. All of the apartments are equipped with television, air conditioning, central heating, and kitchen (sink, electric hob, microwave, fridge, extractor hood, cutlery, crockery and cooking utensils). In the adjoining building there have been created 10 new apartments, finely restored and furnished. Guests will enjoy the spacious and equipped outdoor area where reception is located, and a beautiful heated swimming pool (15 by 6 metres, 1.5m deep and open beginning April - end October) is surrounded by pleasant greenery with gazebo. A 150 metre stroll through an olive grove leads to the charming Villa Montartino, where guests of Villa Le Piazzole may enjoy dinners in the enchanting little restaurant. There is a self-service laundry room and, on request, breakfast service can be offered. Each apartment has a kitchen area with a microwave oven, electric heating plates, sink, refrigerator and cooking utensils. There are satellite TV, air conditioning, a safe and a telephone. Approximate driving time to airports: Pisa - 75 min, Bologna - 90 min, Florence - 35 min. Villa Limonaia (sleeps 2+2) |
