Villa Rosso di Vinci is a lovely farm estate set in the hills near Vinci, the birthplace of Leonardo.
The farmhouse was completely restored in 2005 and has been divided into two apartments, sleeping 4+1 and 6+1. There is swimming pool (to be built for June 2006), a garden and views, and the property is open all year. This is a great situation lying 2.5 miles from Vinci, 25 from Florence, 22 from Pisa and 28 miles from Lucca. This lovely farm estate is set in the hills between the villages of Sovigliana and Vinci - famous as the birthplace of Leonardo. The farm produces olive oil and wine on the estate, which guests are welcome to purchase during their stay. The estate comprises a large villa where the friendly and welcoming owner lives, and a second farmhouse nearby which is used for letting. The farmhouse was completely restored in 2005 and has been divided into two apartments. To the front there is a large terrace and some beautiful trees. There is a grassy garden area to the side of the farmhouse which has garden furniture for shared use. To the rear of the house, a swimming pool will be built during the winter to be ready for the 2006 season (please ask for details at the time of booking). There are fantastic views from the pool area to Montalbano and the surrounding hills. The area around is very pretty and with easy access to Florence, which is 25 miles away. For a day out in the city you could travel easily by either road or by rail from the station at Empoli, which is about six miles from the property. Other places of note include Pisa and Siena, and of course San Gimignano which is a must on every tourist's itinerary. Vinci itself is a small hilltop town and home to a fascinating museum devoted to the work of Leonardo, the great artist and inventor who lived from 1452-1519. The museum, housed in the local castle, displays models of his great inventions including forms of transport and other items designed way before their time. There are good shopping facilities and restaurants in Sovigliana and Vinci (each about two miles away each) and a large supermarket at Empoli. Horse riding is available at nearby Montalbano. The two apartments are as follows: Rossino apartment, on the ground floor, leads from the terrace into a lovely sitting/dining room with sofa, two armchairs and a TV. There is an open, fitted kitchen with fridge with freezer compartment, gas hob with four rings, electric oven and dishwasher. There is a large en-suite double bedroom (shower, basin and WC) with views to the garden and pool; an extra bed can be made available in this room. The second bedroom is a twin, and there is a good bathroom with shower, basin, bidet and WC, plus a garden area for eating out of doors. Rosso apartment, on the first floor, sleeps 6+1. An entrance from the terrace leads into a small hallway with stairs leading up to the first floor. There is a sitting/dining room with sofa and armchairs, TV, open fitted kitchen with fridge with freezer compartment, gas hob with four rings, electric oven and dishwasher. There are windows to the front and back garden, and three good bedrooms: two doubles and a smaller twin. One of the double rooms has an en-suite bathroom with basin, shower, bidet and WC.. An extra bed can be made available in the second double room. There is a second bathroom with basin, shower, bidet and WC, plus a garden area for eating out of doors. Both properties are tastefully furnished in modern rustic style and there are terracotta floors throughout. There is a laundry room with washing machine, iron and ironing board for shared use, plus central heating and a cot available on request. There is a barbecue in the garden. |
