Villa le Piazzole is the 'residence'
of Villa Montartino, located just 150
metres away from the holiday apartments at Villa le Piazzole. The accommodation
is in elegant suites / holiday apartments - the villa has been renovated with
expert skill, and restored to its original splendour.
Villa le Piazzole overlooks the small square formed by the junction of Via Suor
Maria Celeste and Via San Matteo in Acetri. This is one of Florence's historic
houses, mentioned in noted publications down the centuries. The area is quite
famous - Arcetri's Observatory is located here, as is Il Gioiello villa,
where Galileo Galilei lived and worked for more than fifteen years. He lived
his last years here close to the convent where his daughter Maria Celeste was
a nun. Her memory now recalled by the street which leads to Montartino.
Historical documents, and the coat-of-arms discovered during the restoration,
reveal that the villa was the country seat of the Acciaoli, an ancient Florentine
family, responsible for the building of the Certosa di Galluzzo monastery, visible
from the property.
The two roads which meet here, leading from Poggio Imperiale and from the Pian
dei Giullari, are recommended as splendid country/hillside walks in many important
guidebooks. These narrow roads, unwinding between stone walls covered in vegetation,
are almost completely free of traffic, and guest staying at the villa enjoy
a rural tranquility while being just a few minutes from the city centre.
